Be pround, be happy

It's three year in a row for Finland to be at the top of global competitiveness ranking, and it's 4 times in last five year to claim "the most competitive country" title. Here you can read some highlights and remarks of the over-600-page 2005 report by World Economic Forum. If I wanted to argue how profound the ranking stands, I would have first question the definition of "competiveness" defined by WEF. Here I'd think as the report shown, a country's competitiveness is based on economic figures, statistics, policies, business, economic environment, etc. Finland and other Nordic countries are doing great job in bringing all factors together to keep the economies stable, minimize the nagative effects of weaknesses, e.g. inflexible labour market, high taxes.

Finns have reasons to be pround and to be happy too. Among 20 countries Finns are the 2rd happiest. Well I am not surprised, since it again depends how you define "happy". Healthy is happy. Satisfaction is happy.

I missed last Friday's Finnish course because I needed to be at thesis seminar in Tornio. Call me a lazybone, but I don't feel one time course 1.5 hour is that much to miss. In fact I was glad to have some good reasons to be somewhere else. It's not that I don't take initiative in learning Finnish language, it's the course that sucks. I expect it to be course where we get to talk and conversate alot, but the teacher's planned filling all kinds of forms and applications one of the main study items at the course. I understand forms and paper work is part of our lives, but how difficult will that possibably be? If they are difficult for foreigners, they're somehow difficult for the local Finns as well. Isn't it enough to go through the most common fields and questions in forms? We'll know how to do them when they come. Please save some time for conversation, listening and use of phrases.

So yeah, I am dissappointed. Friends told me I totally should share my thoughts on this with the teacher. Maybe I will if she continues what she's doing. Hopefully I will talk some sense to her, at least get her to see my point.

Nobody likes spending weekend in working, but when your daytime is packed with other duties, or your time is simply not enough, or you're simply running out of options, you have to work at weekend. As long as I acheive some efficency and effectiveness, I won't complain. It's my work and motivation comes from inside.

Dragonfly posted a autumn scene, I post one of my favourate from couple months before.

I am back! Back to autumn!

I never left. I am always around. I've been coming here and checking other blogs from now and then.

It feels a long time has passed. The fallen leaves, non-stop wind and cloudy sky indicate that the mid-autumn's arrived. Sometimes we wonder how time can change things and people, while in fact from another angle things never really change that much as we'd like them to.

If you look at me, what I've been up to, I can tell I am pretty much doing what I am always doing or thinking to do. Thesis project is proceeding slowly than my schedule, but my workload is much bigger than I estimated according to the project plan. Because of the limited time and resources that I have for my thesis, I decide not to go too detailed and elaborate on survey analysis. I am neither doing a quantitative research and nor a statistics student. The ultimate goal is to design a site that will be utilized by my school and other interested educational institutes.

Besides the idea that things stay the same, I totally agree that things never go as planned. Thus my weakness of indecisiveness sometimes saves my ass from troubles. When I almost booked the plane tickets for home visit, something "nice" comes up. I will have some travel guiding jobs starting at Christmas throughout the whole winter. GREAT! That's exactly what I wished for now! Or what? I can't wait to visit home country. Postponing is just what I've been doing for last three years. But hey, I should be happy right? At least I won't fall miserably into unemployment crises after graduation.

Anyway, I am back, back to autumn with bunch of summer photos...Reminded me of the Greenday song "Wake me up when September ends". Everyone, enjoy the autumn!
